Become a Member

Every Membership we receive helps expand our programs. It gives a new student the chance to receive scholarship for his or her first piano lesson. It lets us begin making plans for our next summer camp. It provides the necessary funds to purchase art supplies for a new class. It is our Members that support us and make everything we do possible.

Becoming a Member of Sturgis Center for the Arts means more than donating a few dollars. It's a company, family, or individual saying,

"This matters to me. I want to support this to make our community a better place."

If you are interested in becoming a Member, we offer several options to accommodate any budget. Please click the button below to make a donation online. If you would like to make a larger donation than is listed or speak with us directly about your Membership, please contact us via phone, email, or schedule a visit.

We are pleased to offer a wide variety of art, music, theatre, and less-traditional arts programs to the vibrant Sturgis and Black Hills community; a community that was and continues to be our inspiration.

2019 Music Offerings

Our music offerings focus on one-on-one lessons between a single instructor and student. A standard lesson is thirty minutes long once a week and can include instruction on any of the following topics:  Music theory, daily practice exercises, ear training, instrument maintenance and upkeep, sight reading, improvisation, soloing, performance, and group playing. Most of our instructors utilize a standard textbook of their choice, which is the student's responsibility to purchase and bring to each lesson. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend lessons to keep current on his or her child's current level of ability, skill progression, areas of difficulty, and homework. Students pay for lessons in advance, one month at a time.

We are taking registration for fall lessons.

Dana Groth providing drum lessons on Monday and Wednesday starting August 19, 2019.

Drake Leetch instructing guitar and banjo lessons on Monday and Wednesday starting August 19, 2019.

Garrett Holtz lessons on guitar and ukulele on Wednesdays starting August 21, 2019.

Kate Baum-Fjelstad providing voice lessons on Wednesday and Thursday starting August 28.

Sarah Nelson returns with piano, organ, flute, autoharp and other instruments on Monday and Thursday starting September 9, 2019.

2019 Visual Art Offerings

Sturgis Center for the Arts offers a wide array of visual art classes and one-on-one lessons. Students of all ages can take part in our courses designed to inspire creativity and augment a student's natural talent. For beginner students, we are pleased to include numerous classes that aim to teach participants the joy of creating artwork and the basics of color, shape, line, form, value, and space. Our classes cover a broad range of both two- and three-dimensional mediums.

Private Art Class Reservations

Sturgis Center for the Arts also offers many art classes by private group reservation. Groups can schedule a class at our facility or an approved location of business in the area. Private reservations are reviewed by SCA and the instructor(s) teaching the class, and fees are applied based on the class details and number of students in the group. We reserve the right to decline any private reservation requests.
